Global round-up: Dubai ends three-month-long nightly curfew

Dubai has ended its three-month-long nightly curfew. Free movement is allowed “all day and night” as long as people wear masks and maintain social distancing, officials said.

A thousand Australian military personnel are to help test more than 100,000 people in door-to-door checks in 10 suburbs of Melbourne. Victoria state reported 33 new cases, the highest in more than two months.

Latin America’s death toll is expected to rise to 388,300 by October, with Brazil and Mexico accounting for two-thirds of fatalities, a University of Washington study found. Deaths in the region have passed 100,000.

India counted another record daily high of 16,922 new cases, with New Delhi worst hit. The death toll rose by 418 to 14,894.

South Africa has posted its highest daily number of cases with 5,688 new infections. More than 2,200 have died. The country’s 111,796 confirmed cases make up more than a third of infections in Africa.
