Global Bank Headcount Shrinks for Eight Years Running: Chart

Revenue-producing jobs in trading, sales and research at the top 12 global banks declined to 51,900 from 66,800 in 2010, according to a new report by Coalition Development Ltd. Cash equities led recent cuts and the trend is down, according to Amrit Shahani, research director at the company. While U.S. banks are keeping headcount stable, their European peers may continue to scale back amid restructuring in the region, he said. The negative trend may reverse if Brexit-hit banks duplicate roles in Europe.
