Infidelity can leave people with lasting emotional damage, especially if it’s never addressed. And unfortunately, it’s not exactly rare.
In fact, nearly 1 in 5 marriages in the U.S. were affected by infidelity in 2024, according to recent data. That number doesn’t even include long-term relationships where no vows were exchanged.
Because of how common cheating is, some partners are always on alert. They watch for mood shifts, changed routines, and inconsistent stories.
Over time, people have come up with all sorts of methods to catch a cheater—from sniffing clothes to hiring a private investigator.
But one TikToker decided to try something different. It involves glitter.
What ‘glitter trick‘ did she use when she suspected cheating?
In a video that quickly racked up more than 32.9 million views, TikTok creator Christina Jacobs (@chrissy.j.xx) shows herself doing something odd to her husband’s wireless earbuds.
“I think my husband might be cheating on me…” the on-screen caption reads, as she opens their car’s center console and pulls out the earbuds case.
She writes, “He often says he is going for a run, but he is always gone for such a long time…”
Jacobs then reveals she has a plan. She removes the earbuds, pours pink glitter directly into the holes of the case lid, and places the earbuds back in carefully.
Then she puts them back in the car and writes, “I’m sure he will mention/be covered in glitter if he really is running!”
“Glitter reveals everything,” she adds in the caption.
So… did it work?
In a follow-up video, Jacobs shares what happened next. Her husband came back from the run and said it was fine—but she found the earbuds untouched in his jacket pocket.
That’s what convinced her something was off. According to her, he never runs without music, and he didn’t say a word about glitter.
Is this real or for entertainment purposes?
It’s hard to say whether any of it actually happened. While Jacobs doesn’t explicitly label her videos as skits, her page is full of glitter-based “tests.”
In one video, she sprinkles glitter in various parts of the bathroom to see if her husband actually cleaned it. In another, she fills an umbrella with glitter to catch her husband cheating. She even advised pouring glitter in sunscreen to check if someone actually applied it.
We’ve reached out to Jacobs to ask whether her videos are based on real-life events or are just made to be relatable entertainment.
What should you actually do if you suspect cheating?
According to psychologists, jumping straight into accusations isn’t the best move.
First, it helps to pause and reflect. Ask yourself if the behavior you’re noticing could have other explanations.
Then, take steps to protect your own well-being. Get tested for STIs, talk to someone you trust, or consider reaching out to a therapist.
If you do choose to bring it up with your partner, focus on how their behavior is making you feel rather than accusing them outright.
Commenters weren’t impressed with the glitter plan
In the comments, not everyone thought the glitter trap made sense.
“At no point did I understand the plan,” one confused user wrote.
“The relationship is already lost when u feel u have to do these things,” another said.
Someone else added, “Now he’s going to have glitter in his ears forever because of your dumb [expletive].”
