Glider gets stuck during u-turn in Belfast

A Glider blocked a road in Belfast on Friday morning which led to delays and tailbacks in the area.

Just before 10 am on Friday, October 15, the Upper Newtownards Road was fully obstructed in the citybound direction after a Glider got caught in the middle of the road while trying to turn.

Around 30 minutes later, it was reported that the road had been reopened, however delays and tailbacks were still visible in the area.

The incident happened close to Dundonald Police Station, across the road from the Ulster Hospital.

NI Road Policing and Safety said at the time: "Motorists are advised of delays on the Newtownards Road close to Dundonald PSNI station, due to a broken down Glider.

"Please seek an alternative route if possible as tailbacks are expected."

Commenting on the incident, a spokesperson for Translink said: “A Glider became immobilised during a u-turn manoeuvre near the Ulster Hospital this morning.

“There were no passengers on board at the time.

“The Glider was moved after approx. 30 minutes”.
