March 24--Glenview residents John West and Kaitlin Roseman were married on the "Today" show bright and early on Thursday morning, during an outdoor ceremony that wound through Rockefeller Plaza among well-wishers and screaming fans. The bride wore an elegant satin mermaid-style gown with jeweled cap sleeves and plunging back. The Pronovias gown was selected by "Today" show viewers, who also voted on many other aspects of the wedding, including the rings, the cake, the bridesmaids' dresses and the bouquet.
West and Roseman won the on-air ceremony after competing in the "My Big Fat 'Today' Show Wedding" contest earlier this month. The contest was a promotion for the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2", scheduled to open on Friday.
Roseman learned which wedding dress had been chosen for her shortly before the ceremony began. "I'm so excited," Roseman said. "This is my first time in my dress and shoes."
Triple-platinum recording artist Andy Grammer serenaded the bride and groom on guitar, and the wedding party included actress Nia Vardalos, star of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2." A minister married the couple as they walked briskly down the street, Roseman still wearing her tennis shoes.
The processional wound up in the historic Rainbow Room at 30 Rock, where 80 wedding guests were waiting to celebrate with the newly-married couple.
The couple slow-danced to "I Choose You" performed by Grammer. As groom John West said afterward, "Everything came together so well, and everyone put in so much hard work. The performances, everything, has just been perfect."
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the morning was the announcement of the honeymoon destination, also chosen by "Today" Show viewers: Mykonos Island in Greece, including a side trip to Crete.
The destination seemed like an appropriate choice, given the event's tie-in with "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2."
