Glentoran youngster Caolan McBride set for Aston Villa move

Aston Villa are set to add Glentoran youngster Caolan McBride this summer.

It is expected that the 17-year-old will move to Birmingham next month on a three-year deal.

Former Villa midfielder and current Crusaders player Rory Hale has been working with McBride on some one-to-one coaching during football's suspension.

Hale posted on Twitter: "Great to have young Caolan McBride in for a session today. Caolan will be put through his paces for the next few weeks as he builds up his fitness and sharpness before he makes his move to Aston Villa to sign a three-year contract next month! Super talent!"

Northern Ireland Under 17 international McBride has progressed through the ranks at the Oval and has featured in the first-team squad over the past 12 months.

Villa have been long-time admirers of the youngster, who Glentoran have described as "a creative, classy central midfield player who can open up defences with his passing and running ability".

Glentoran Under 20 coach David Lowry recently said: "Caolan has been at Glentoran for a long time and has stepped up very successfully into the U20 set-up this season.

"He has grown in stature and matured as the season has progressed and emerged as an important player. He has a superb ability to run with the ball at his feet in crowded areas.

"That provides an X-factor in any team."
