Glentoran vs Ballymena United: Mick McDermott under no illusions ahead of Sky Blues visit

Mick McDermott has warned in-form Glentoran they’ll have to be at their best against Ballymena United to make it seven straight wins in the league.

The Big Two giants, who can climb to third with a win over the Sky Blues, will be firm favourites against a United side with only one win in their last eight outings.

But McDermott, who needed a last-gasp Marcus Kane equaliser to salvage a 1-1 draw at the Ballymena Showgrounds in December, is taking nothing for granted at The Oval.

“We’re preparing for a really big challenge,” he said.

“While Ballymena have faltered a bit after getting off to a really good start in the league, they are still hard to break down.

“Yes, they’ve dropped down the table a bit, but we’re under no illusions. They’re well organised, they’ve got good players and David (Jeffrey) has them running to the 95th minute.”
