Glentoran tune up for Larne clash with special visit from superfan Ricky and Black Star Riders

Glentoran tuned up for Friday night's Premiership clash with Larne with a special visit from rock and roll superfan Ricky Warwick and his band Black Star Riders.

Ricky and the group took time out of their UK tour to check out some of the new facilities at the Oval on Thursday morning.

The visit came ahead of their appearance at The Limelight later that night.

Ricky and the members of Black Star Riders were shown around the revamped changing rooms and new Performance Centre by Glens head coach Mick McDermott.

"I have never met Ricky or the band before, but I know who they are," McDermott said.

"They came down to the Oval this morning and I was able to shown them around the place. It was great having them here.

"Ricky is a massive Glens fan, and he was delighted to come down and see some of the new facilities we have here.

"He has said how much he would love to play a live gig here at The Oval. That would be fantastic and it's definitely something we would look into. Why not?"

McDermott added: "Ricky has played in front of tens of thousands of fans before, but you could see the excitement and buzz he got from being at The Oval.

"He sponsored one of our games earlier in the season but wasn't able to attend the match, but he is always following our games and keeping an eye out for the club's results.

"I believe they are playing The Limelight tonight, and they played Dublin last night. I think they are on the move again tomorrow."

The Glens return to action on Friday night against Larne in the Danske Bank Premiership.

The game comes just three days after McDermott's side earned a 3-2 extra-time win over the Invermen in the County Antrim Shield.

"They played some good football in spells, but I thought we did well and showed a lot of character," McDermott added.

"They have had a couple of disappointing results and will be determined to bounce back, so we know how tough Friday will be.

"It is a big game, live on television and we can't wait for it. Both clubs came through a tough 110 minutes of football on Tuesday night, so we will see how both teams came out of that Shield tie."
