Glentoran striker Danny Purkis makes young fan's day with touching letter

A young Gilnahirk Primary School boy was left on cloud nine after receiving a special letter from his 'footballing hero' Danny Purkis.

The P7 pupil wrote to Purkis to tell the Glens striker how much of a fan he is.

The youngster's touching gesture was met with an equally kind reply from Purkis who sent back a special letter to say how "grateful" he was.

Gilnahirk shared the exchange on their social media, including the correspondence from Purkis which was written on official Glentoran headed paper.

In it, the Oval striker said: "I hope you're having an awesome day. I am super excited to write you this letter after receiving your amazing message.

"It's not every day that a football player like me gets such heartfelt letters from cool kids like you. Firstly, let me say a big thank you for taking the time to write to me.

"Your kind words made me really happy, and I'm so grateful to have a young fan like you cheering me on. It means a lot to know that I can inspire awesome kids like you.

"I was happy to hear that your teacher thinks you have the potential to be a young Nick Pope. What inspired me to play football?

"I always loved watching the game on TV and I looked up to players like Steven Gerrard and that Inspired me to join a local team when I was five. My favourite players in my team are Jay Donnelly and Harry Murphy.

"Remember, every successful footballer starts with a dream, just like you. If you keep practising, working hard, and never giving up on your goals, there's no telling how far you can go.

"1 encourage you to keep practising and improving, both on and off the field. Go to training sessions, practise regularly, and listen to your coaches' advice.

"But most importantly, have fun playing the game you love. Football isn't just about winning; it's about enjoying yourself as well.

"Once again, thank you for your fantastic letter, It made my day, and I feel honoured to be an Inspiration to you. Keep chasing your dreams, and i know you'll achieve amazing things.

"Wishing you all the best in your football journey!

"Warmest regards. Danny Purkis."

Purkis also shared the story on his social media, adding: "It’s the simple things! It costs nothing! What a little hero!!.
