Glentoran pay emotional tribute to 'wonderful servant' Dr Chris Kyle

Glentoran have led the tributes to Dr Chris Kyle, who has sadly passed away.

The lifelong Glens fan, who was club doctor at The Oval, passed away following a period of illness.

In ab emotional tribute on the club website Glentoran said Dr Chris still made himself available to the players "provide support, advice and wisdom" in his final weeks.

“Dr Chris Kyle was a wonderful servant of our club," said Chairman Ian Kerr.

"His service to Glentoran even when he wasn't well is a wonderful testament to the man. It was a privilege to know him.

"Everyone at the Glentoran family wish to pass on our sincere condolences to the Kyle family. A great man lost to us."

Glens all-time record appearance and current Academy Manager, Colin Nixon, also paid tribute to the loyal servant of the club in a heartfelt post.

“I was devastated when I received the sad news from his son that Dr Chris Kyle had passed away this morning," he said.

"Chris was the very best of us. A man who I deeply respected and cherished the friendship we had.

"Never judgemental but always only caring and compassionate, Chris truly was one in a million.

"His loss will be Glentoran’s loss as his duty of care to all at the club but especially the players will never be replaced.

"It will be extremely hard not to see him in our dugout. My thoughts and prayers are with all of his family at this time and can only imagine the heartbreak they are feeling. God bless Doc.”

Another former Glentoran captain, Paul Leeman, echoed those sentiments saying: "So sorry to hear this. Sincere condolences to the family. RIP Dr Chris Kyle, a truly lovely man."

Current Glentoran boss, Rodney McAree, dedicated his side's performances in the 1-1 draw with Linfield to the late doctor.

"It was important that we got a performance for Chris, who passed away this morning which was heartbreaking," he said.

"He was an absolute gentleman and well thought of by everyone in the dressing room.

"We couldn't demand that we won the game for him but we could demand that the players put in a performance for him and I thought they did that."

Former Glens boss Mick McDermott also paid his own tribute to Dr Chris as he tweeted: "A top professional, a better human being; a calm, sincere and honest voice in many storms! I could never thank him enough: RIP Dr. Chris Kyle…..a forever Glentoran Legend!"
