Glentoran owner Ali Pour donates £5,000 to captain's fundraising appeal

Glentoran owner Ali Pour has donated £5,000 to a special fundraising campaign in honour of Harrie Kane.

Club captain Marcus Kane and his wife Aimee suffered the tragic loss of baby boy Harrie in December last year.

They launched a fundraising initiative back in May with an initial target of £10,000 to help with bereavement care at the Royal Maternity Hospital Belfast.

The campaign involved a #HikeForHarrie challenge, where people were encouraged to walk one mile or more, in their local area observing all social distancing rules.

Now, barely three months on, and the fundraising total has climbed above £50,000.

The family have been overwhelmed by the response, which has now seen Glentoran's owner pledge a significant donation.

"Ali texted me a week or so ago that he was going to donate, but he never said how much," Marcus said.

"We have been totally overwhelmed by everyone's generosity. The response has been incredible.

"As a family we are so grateful to everyone who has shown their support and it is a fantastic sum of money to raise.

"Raising over £50,000 is brilliant. There are no words for it."

Anyone wishing to donate can do so on Marcus and Aimee's Just Giving page.
