Oval legend Colin Nixon has been appointed new Technical Director of Glentoran Academy.
The former defender returns to Mersey Street following an eight-year absence to take up the role with immediate effect.
The newly created post will see Nixon take responsibility of overseeing all age groups up to and including Under 18.
The club said the 43-year-old will be responsible for "shaping the future direction of the Academy, its staff and players".
Nixon will also develop, manage and deliver the Academy coaching programme and coordinate the day–to-day running of the Academy.
He told www.glentoran.com : “I’m absolutely delighted to have been offered the opportunity to return to a club that means the absolute world to me.
"It’s such an exciting time for Glentoran and I can’t wait to start working with all the coaches and especially the exciting talented players within the ranks.
"I would like to thank Mick and Paul for the faith they have shown in me”.
Glens first-team boss Mick McDermott added: “It is great news for our entire community to welcome Colin back to Glentoran.
"We have searched long and hard to find a suitable coach to fill this important role. When Colin became an option in recent weeks we acted quickly and are delighted that he accepted the invitation to join us.
"He is Glentoran through-and-through and I have no doubt that he will have a massive role in inspiring our young players to give their all for the red, green & black.”
Nixon made 794 appearances for Glentoran from 1995 to 2013, scoring 89 goals and winning 22 trophies with the club.
He went on to manage Ards in the Premiership from 2016-19.
