Glentoran Academy youngster channels inner David Beckham to score wonder goal

Take a bow, Charlie Campbell.

The Glentoran Academy youngster channelled his inner David Beckham to score an absolute wonder goal at the weekend.

Charlie was playing for Glentoran Under 13s against Glenavon on Saturday, with his goal helping secure a spirited 2-1 win.

It was a moment of magic.

Charlie, standing just inside the opposition's half, met the Glenavon goalkeeper's clearance with a first-time volley, and his right-foot strike sailed over the unsuspecting Lurgan Blues shot-stopper's head and into the net.

The centre half's goal helped the Glens make it eight wins our of eight in this season's National League - unsurprisingly they sit top of the table.

Charlie, who hails from Tobermore, has shown massive commitment and dedication since joining the Glens, completing a two-hour round trip for training three times a week and also playing every Saturday.

He and his teammates have enjoyed a successful few weeks, and recently picked up the Belfast Youth Cup after beating Glenavon in the final.

Charlie’s parents Rodney and Diane said: "Charlie is absolutely loving life at Glentoran Academy and we are so very proud of him."
