Glenn Whelan emerges as Ireland injury doubt for crucial Denmark clash

Glenn Whelan has emerged as an injury doubt for Ireland's win-or-bust Euro 2020 qualifier with Denmark in two week's time.

The Hearts midfielder went off with a hamstring problem just 25 minutes into a 3-0 loss to Rangers in the Betfred Cup semi-final on Sunday.

Ireland boss Mick McCarthy is already without captain Seamus Coleman for the crucial match and is sweating on the fitness of goalkeeper Darren Randolph who is recovering from a thigh injury.

Matt Doherty is still pencilled in to take Coleman's place at right-back despite coming off injured in Wolves' 1-1 draw with Arsenal at the Emirates.

And John Egan, who came off for Sheffield United in their win over Burnley, should be fine after feeling unwell on the pitch.

Whelan, 35, has been a regular starter for McCarthy and was set to anchor the Irish midfield against the Danes with a place at Euro 2020 on the line.
