Glenn Murray and Billy Sharp on Celtic's transfer 'radar' as striker search heats up

Celtic have been linked with a pair of Premier League strikers as they bid to bolster their attacking options during the January transfer window.

Brighton striker Glenn Murray and Sheffield United's Billy Sharp are both on the Hoops' radar - according to a pair of reports.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has made no secret of his desire to strengthen his forward line as he looks to provide leading man Odsonne Edouard with support up top.

Leigh Griffiths and Vakoun Bayo have missed much of the season due to injury and the Irishman's No.1 transfer priority is identifying another striker.

Murray has netted just once in 14 appearances for the Seagulls this season and is a free agent in the summer. The 36-year-old has been strongly linked with a January switch to Championship promotion hopefuls Nottingham Forest.

And Brighton boss Graham Potter admits he wouldn't stand in the veteran's way if the right offer comes in.

He said: "I understand he has had a fantastic career, he has been great for this club and he might want to think about getting some game time.

"We have to try to respect that and understand that. I have absolutely no problem with Glenn at all. If he is with us great and, if not, I can understand why as well.

"These are all things we can think about and speak about privately. Whatever we do, we need to make sure the players we have got are ready to play the game and committed to the game and happy to play."

The Mail on Sunday claim the Hoops could be "ready" to enter the mix to land a player who has been a regular Premier League contributor over the years.

Elsewhere, The Sunday Post reckon Celtic are eyeing Sheffield United striker Sharp as part of a £6.5m double swoop alongside established target Andraz Sporar.

The boyhood Blades fan is living his dream in the Premier League and boss Chris Wilder recently shot down speculation the striker could leave Bramall Lane in January.

But the Post claim Hoops boss Lennon views Sharp and Sporar as the perfect pair to boost his side's push towards nine-in-a-row.

Meanwhile, forgotten man Jack Hendry could be provided with a Parkhead escape as Hearts eye a move for the 24-year-old.

The Scottish Sun claim Daniel Stendel is aware of the Scotland international as the Jambos boss mulls over his options as he looks to strengthen Hearts' creaky backline before the close of the window.
