Glenn Middleton to leave Rangers on loan again as St Johnstone cup hero primed for Perth return

Rangers have given Glenn Middleton the green light to return to St Johnstone.

The Scotland Under-21 winger had a successful loan spell with Callum Davidson’s double-cup winners last season.

Middleton returned to the Scottish champions pre-season but is set for a second stint in Perth.

The 21-year-old had other options but has told the Light Blues this week that he wants to play under Davidson again.

A deal is expected to be concluded when St Johnstone return from their Europa League clash in Turkey against Galatasaray.

It will be a major boost for Davidson as he has kept the door open for him all summer.

Rangers also believe another season in the Premiership with Saints will benefit Middleton who still has another season on his contract, beyond this one.

He will also get European experience with Saints, who if they don’t continue their Europa League adventure will drop into the Europa Conference League.

Middleton has had loan spells at Hibs and Bradford City in recent years.
