Glenn Middleton suffers Rangers transfer blow as winger awaits scan results

Out of favour Glenn Middleton hopes of a loan move out of Rangers have been dealt a blow after he picked up a foot injury.

The 20-year-old’s loan stint at Hibs was cut short last month when he returned to Ibrox having made just eight appearances for the Leith club.

Middleton never featured under Jack Ross and returned to Ibrox with a view to being sent back out on loan.

St Mirren and Ross County were among the clubs to contact Rangers over the winger while Dutch side NAC Breda also expressed an interest.

But the Scotland U21 man has suffered a setback after injuring his foot in a reserve game against Motherwell on Monday.

The Ibrox club are now awaiting the results of a scan to assess the damage.

But St Mirren are understood to have ended any interest in Middleton.

Steven Gerrard said: “Glenn has an issue with his foot that happened in a reserve game.

“He has had a scan so we are just waiting for the results of that but he will be missing in the short term.”
