Glenn Middleton set for Hibs medical as Rangers winger closes in on loan switch

Glenn Middleton will undergo a Hibs medical on Monday ahead of loan move from Rangers.

The 19-year-old winger had been set for a switch to Dutch side NAC Breda.

But Paul Heckingbottom made a late move for the Scotland U21 star's services and the Hibs boss looks to have got his man.

Heckingbottom's need for a new wide man comes after Martin Boyle was ruled out until Christmas after he suffered another knee injury against Elgin.

Middleton took in Hibs win over St Mirren on Saturday after which the Easter Road manager revealed talks were ongoing over the loan move.

He said: "He’s someone we have spoken to Rangers about. We’d be keen to do something, Rangers would and so would Glenn so hopefully we can get something done there.

“It would be a loan. Glenn is someone Rangers value highly.

“So if we can get him we’ll do our bit in terms of pushing him and trying to help develop him and do our bit for him - and he’ll do his bit for us with his application and the qualities he can bring.

"We’re hoping it can be done.”

Steven Gerrard wants Middleton to head out on loan to boost his development after the summer arrivals of Sheyi Ojo, Greg Stewart and Jordan Jones shunted the teen down the pecking order at Ibrox.

The Norwich graduate enjoyed a season to remember in 18/19 and netted five goals in 27 appearances but found his opportunities limited during the second half of the campaign.
