Glenn Middleton Rangers transfer exit given green light as winger hails 'exciting' St Johnstone switch

St Johnstone have announced the signing of Rangers winger Glenn Middleton on a season long loan.

Record Sport first revealed St Johnstone's interest in Middleton. The 21-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan in Perth and has returned to join up with Callum Davidson's side for the 2021/22 campaign.

The Scotland under 21 international made 13 appearances for St Johnstone last season, scoring three goals and providing one assist.

He will be an important part of Callum Davidson's side as they look to achieve similar success to their double cup triumph last season.

They also drew 1-1 away from home with Galatasaray on Thursday and if they can overcome the Turkish giants in Perth then they will be guaranteed group stage European football.

Middleton will be a vital component to those plans, however, he will not be available for selection against Galatasaray.

Speaking to the club's website, Middleton revealed that he can not wait to join back up with his teammates in Perth, he said:

"I'm really pleased to be back at St Johnstone.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my time here last season and to be back to help us go again is very exciting.

"The lads in the squad all made me feel welcome when I joined last January and they took me right into the group to make me feel a part of it from day one.

"There is a great team spirit and I could see that again from the 1-1 draw against Galatasaray last night in the Europa League qualifier. The lads were absolutely brilliant.

"I'm looking forward to getting started and working again with the gaffer, Callum Davidson, and his staff.

"I'd like to thank everyone involved at both Rangers and St Johnstone for working hard behind the scenes to make this move happen."

Although Middleton will not be able to play against Galatasaray on Thursday, there is a chance he could be available for the sides Premiership match against Motherwell on Sunday.
