Glenn Middleton completes Hibs switch as Rangers winger signs season-long loan deal

Hibs have confirmed the loan signing of Glenn Middleton from Rangers.

The winger will spend the rest of the season at Easter Road after agreeing a season-long loan deal with the Leith club.

Paul Heckingbottom made his move for Middleton at the beginning of the month just as it looked like the Scotland U21 star was hading to Holland to join NAC Breda.

Hibs need for a winger was heightened when Martin Boyle was ruled out until Christmas after he suffered another knee injury against Elgin last month.

Middleton was present at Hibs' win over St Mirren last week after which Heckingbottom revealed talks were ongoing over the loan move.

The deal was delayed as the two sides went head-to-head in the Premiership on Sunday - with Rangers running out 6-1 winners.

Now that deal has been completed with Heckingbottom vowing Hibs will "do their bit" to help develop the teen.

“We’ll do our bit in terms of pushing him and trying to help develop him and do our bit for him - and he’ll do his bit for us with his application and the qualities he can bring," the Hibs boss said at the weekend.

The Norwich graduate enjoyed a season to remember in 18/19 and netted five goals for Rangers in 27 appearances but found his opportunities limited during the second half of the campaign.

Heckingbottom added: “I think our supporters will enjoy watching Glenn play.

“He’s direct, quick and will add different qualities to the squad. From our conversations he’s clearly desperate to play for this club.”

Middleton added: “I’m really pleased to have got everything sorted and I just can’t wait to get started.

“I know I’ll need to work hard to make a good impression and that Paul has a lot of good players to choose from, but I’d love to be involved on Saturday against Greenock Morton.”
