Geordie boxing hero Glenn McCrory has called out legend Evander Holyfield for a world cruiserweight champions super match in the wake of Mike Tyson's return to the ring.
And McCrory claims that Holyfield has agreed in principle to go ahead as a follow up to Tyson-Roy Jones Jnr veterans clash in Los Angeles.
McCrory was actually in the BT television studio as part of the commentary team for the Tyson showdown which sparked the thought of his own shock comeback.
Holyfield was the undisputed cruiser king who gave up his title in 1988 to move into the heavyweight division. McCrory fought Patrick Lumumba for the vacant crown in June of 89 on an exhilarating night in Stanley to become his successor.
"I phoned Evander in America after the Tyson fight to discuss what we had both seen and by the end of that conversation he had agreed to fight me," smiled Glenn. "If Tyson and Jones can do it so can we.
"I always regretted missing Holyfield in the cruiser ranks and now all these years later we could get it on.
"I've spoken to BMB Promotions who I work with on TV commentaries and they are looking at the sums."
Meanwhile there are also moves afoot for Holyfield to face Tyson once again with all the appeal that would generate.
Holyfield beat Tyson twice for the world heavyweight titles - first on an 11th round technical knock out and then in June of 97 when Tyson sensationally bit off part of Holyfield's ear in frustration and was disqualified.
However Hoyfield could price himself out of a third meeting - he is said to be asking a staggering £25m.
Evander is now 58 years of age, two years older than McCrory who had four world title fights in his career. His last was a points defeat to Alfred Cole back in July of 93 on what was the first professional boxing bill staged in Russia after the collapse of the Berlin Wall.
The veterans tour which Tyson kicked off to great effect has certainly brought the old superstars back centre stage with Britain's one-time world heavyweight king Lennox Lewis declaring he has "unfinished business" with Riddick Bowe.
