Glenn Maxwell uncertain for RCB opener, Josh Hazlewood to miss initial phase of IPL

NEW DELHI: Australian Glenn Maxwell remains uncertain for Royal Challengers Bangalore's season opener against Mumbai Indians on Sunday as the star all-rounder continues to recuperate from a leg injury.

Maxwell, who broke his leg in a freak accident last November returned to international cricket earlier this month during the India-Australia ODIs but missed out the last two games.

According to national selector George Bailey, the 34-year-old found his return "more demanding than he had expected" and the all-rounder is currently working hard on strength and conditioning to get fit for the RCB opener.

In another development, fast bowler Josh Hazlewood is also set to miss the initial stages of the tournament as he is currently recovering from an Achilles problem which kept him out of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India.

The 32-year-old is, however, hopeful of playing a part in the later stages of the T20 tournament.

Hazlewood will consult Cricket Australia's medical staff before deciding on his participation in the IPL.
