Glenn Hoddle tells Jose Mourinho to unleash Gareth Bale in new Tottenham position

Glenn Hoddle has told Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho to play Gareth Bale in a more central role in the future.

Bale started Spurs ' 3-1 victory over Ludogorets in the Europa League on Thursday evening, as Mourinho 's men bounced back from last week's defeat to Antwerp.

The Wales international scored his first goal in his second spell at the North London club on Sunday, as Spurs beat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 in the capital.

After a slow start due to some fitness concerns after re-joining the club from Real Madrid over the summer, Bale is now started to show his quality in front of goal.

Mauricio Pochettino's last Spurs press conference

The Premier League side opened the scoring early on through Harry Kane 's 200th goal for the club, and Lucas Moura doubled Tottenham's tally before Giovani Lo Celso put the game beyond reasonable doubt on 62 minutes after the Bulgarian side halved the deficit.

The 31-year-old was involved in Spurs' second goal, when he collected the ball in a central area and played a lovely ball to Kane, who found Lucas across the six-yard box for a tap-in.

Hoddle, who was on punditry duty for BT Sport's coverage of the Europa League clash, believes where Bale collected the ball could be a hint for his long-term position at Spurs.

“He is looking sharper, he’s had more minutes on the pitch as well. He’s not quite there yet, I don’t think we can judge him yet, there’s still a long way to go to get back to anywhere near (his best)," the Tottenham legend said.

"It’s not gonna be the same Bale that left Tottenham or played at Real Madrid.

"What we saw tonight, drifting into the little pocket, the number 10 position, and then hurting the opposition, that’s where I see him.

"I don’t see him out wide on the right, or the left, but I think there’s a combination, eventually Son, Bale and Kane, it’ll be as good as anything in the country.”

Spurs are next in action on Sunday, as they travel to struggling West Bromwich Albion, with kick-off at midday.

Tottenham go into the weekend in third-place, but are likely to drop down before they even kick a ball on Sunday afternoon.

However, a win against the Baggies could see Spurs climb to the top of the Premier League table, depending on how Liverpool and Leicester City do in their respective games.
