Glenn Hoddle sets Mauricio Pochettino's target for Tottenham and their Champions League hopes

Tottenham Hotspur icon Glenn Hoddle has suggested that Mauricio Pochettino should look to the Premier League to build on last year's Champions League apperance against Liverpool.

Spurs were beaten by Jurgen Klopp's side but finished in the top four to return to the competition for the 2019/20 season.

Pochettino's side stunned the continent with a thrilling run in the competition last year to reach the final after beating Manchester City and Ajax in dramatic circumstances before falling to Liverpool in the final.

Carabao Cup third round draw in full

Spurs are eagerly awaiting this season's group stage draw, as the road to Istanbul begins, but Hoddle does not fancy Spurs' chances of going all the way.

"It was a rollercoaster last year. Personally, my heart says I would love them to go all the way again but it will be extremely difficult," he told BT Sport.

"They've got to get their domestic scene sorted out. Behind the scenes, there's players coming to the end of their contracts, you just feel there is a little bit of an imbalance there.

"For me, a team in all competitions to lose 20 matches last year, that is too many.

"I think they need to get their head down and look at the Premier League."

Spurs were drawn in group B for the first stage of the Champions League proper, alongside Bayern Munich.
