Glenn Hoddle reveals what Tottenham must do better following second half showing vs Wolfsberger

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Glenn Hoddle has criticised the attitude of Spurs' players for their below-par performance during the second half of their 4-1 win over Wolfsberger AC in the first-leg of their Europa League round of 32 clash on Thursday evening.

Spurs came flying out of the blocks in Budapest, racing into a three-goal lead by half time thanks to goals from Son Heung-min, Gareth Bale and Lucas Moura.

However, Wolfsberger, despite rarely testing Hugo Lloris in the Tottenham goal over the course of the encounter, did give Jose Mourinho's troops something to think about ten minutes into the second half when Michael Liendl cooly slotted home a penalty, after Moussa Sissoko sloppily gave away a spot-kick.

But with time running out, Spurs did restore their three-goal cushion through Brazilian striker Carlos Vinicius, who stepped off the bench at half time.

Although Tottenham made light work of the Austrian side, all but sealing their place in the last-16 in the process ahead of next week's second leg, Hoddle was not overly impressed with their second half showing, questioning their attitude.

"In the end, at 3-0, you thought the game was over, but it was needed in the end," Hoddle told BT Sport. "I think, in the end, their attitude went downhill.

"I think sometimes, when things become a little bit easy, or they think it is going to be too easy, you take too many touches. Instead of just keeping the ball flowing and the angle of the ball moving, suddenly you catch out the opponents by not actually doing much.

"You need to change the angle of the play, four or five times quickly, and that you will open teams up, and that is the better teams let alone the lesser teams, like they were. Wolfsberger were a poor side, really, in many ways.

"Defensively they played very open."

Despite Hoddle's criticism for Spurs' second half showing, he was impressed by Vinicius' well-taken finish to get him on the scoresheet for the first time since scoring a hat-trick in the FA Cup victory over non-league side Marine last month.

"That is a real centre-forward's type of goal; it is in the six yard box, it is going out wide and he puts it in the back of the net before you know it," added Hoddle.

"That will give him a lot of confidence, because when he came in he looked really good. I thought 'hang on a minute, Spurs have got a player here that can come in for [Harry] Kane.'

"He has just gone off that a little bit, but that will give him the confidence again to restart his form."
