Glenn Hoddle on Arsenal's Europa League final incentive against Chelsea

Arsenal and Chelsea will meet in the Europa League final in Baku tonight.

The Gunners came out as 7-3 aggregate winners against Spanish side Valencia, while Chelsea had to rely on a penalty shootout to ensure their passage against German side Eintracht Frankfurt.

But, as pointed out by pundit Glenn Hoddle after the games, there is another incentive than just the trophy.

The winner of the Europa League is automatically given a place in next season's Champions League. Chelsea claimed their place by securing a top four finish in the Premier League.

So, winning the competition will be Arsenal's best chance of playing in the Champions League next season, and Hoddle believes that will give the Gunners an extra incentive going into the final.

"Obviously in the final now it’s going to mean more to Arsenal now to go and win than Chelsea in many senses because if they win it then they get into the Champions League for next season," the pundit told BT Sport.

"So there’s an incentive there for Arsenal more than Chelsea but Chelsea now have battled their way through here. It’s going to be some game. London’s going to take over Baku."

The final between Arsenal and Chelsea takes place on May 29th.
