Glenn Hoddle replaced in ITV commentary booth for major football games

Glenn Hoddle has reportedly joined Clive Tyldesley in being replaced by ITV as a lead voice in the broadcaster’s football commentary booth.

Former England manager Hoddle will continue to work for ITV but will no longer lend his analysis during the most high-profile games.

Former Arsenal player Lee Dixon is set to take over from the 62-year-old.

Hoddle often paired with Tyldesley for major games, but neither will continue in their previous roles following the news last month that Sam Matterface will replace Tyldesley, 65.

That news left Tyldesley “upset, annoyed and baffled”.

“I do not know exactly why this decision has been taken,” Tyldesley said. “Already I’ve had the producer of a broadcaster that I am working on asking me if I have got any health issues. No, I have got no health issues. Asking me if it is something that I have done. No, there’s nothing.”

Following the news surrounding Hoddle, a spokesman for ITV said: “Glenn has been an excellent co-commentator and valued part of the ITV team.

“His deal has come to an end and we are making a change in the co-commentator role, bringing in Lee Dixon, who has experience in this position and who, with his wealth of expertise and insight, will work well with Sam Matterface, our new lead commentator.”
