Spurs 'chased dreams' in manager hunt
football.london was told earlier this week that Tottenham had "chased dreams" in their managerial search since Jose Mourinho was sacked by the club in mid-April.
Spurs' top choice was re-appointing Mauricio Pochettino as their manager, but Paris Saint-Germain's stance on the Argentine coach remained the same throughout the process and the north London club conceded defeat.
Then the attention quickly turned to Antonio Conte, who recently left Inter Milan, with a deal for the former Chelsea boss looking very likely at one point.
However, talks between Spurs and the Italian coach broke down after it became clear the club and Conte were not on the same page.
Now, after a lengthy process, Spurs look set to appoint Paulo Fonseca as their new permanent manager. The former Roma boss has been out of a job since leaving the Italian club a few months ago, with former Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho appointed as his successor in Italy.
football.london understands a deal to appoint Fonseca is close, but not yet done.

Conte opens up on why Spurs talks broke down
Conte has suggested that it was Tottenham's proposals that put him off taking a job with the north London club.
The Italian head coach looked set to take over at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but negotiations between the two parties quickly collapsed, much to everyone's surprise.
Now, the former Inter manager has opened up on what went wrong during the talks.
"Money is not my obsession," Conte told Gazzetta dello Sport. "I look at projects and I'm ready to stay at home if they don't convince me.
"I like difficult challenges but if there is something with a club that does not convince me, I prefer to say: no, thank you."

Hoddle makes £150m Kane claim
Glenn Hoddle thinks Harry Kane may be sold by Tottenham for less than the reported £150million asking price.
Kane has been heavily linked with a move away from Spurs, but football.london understands the 27-year-old is yet to tell the club that he wants to leave this summer.
However, former Spurs star Hoddle thinks the England captain could very well be sold over the next few months - and for a lot cheaper than some believe.
Speaking to the Mirror, he said: “I don’t think anyone’s going to cough up £150million, I think they could cough up £100million plus two players, if it’s Manchester City, Manchester United, whoever.
“That deal isn’t an easy done and dusted deal when you’ve got three years left on your contract; he might still be at Tottenham.
“Then again, Tottenham may feel he’s 28 in the summer and might think, ‘We’ve got to cash in now’, because when he’s 29 and going to the World Cup [next year], they’re not going to have that kind of offer.
“As a Spurs man, I hope he doesn’t go, but if he does go, I wish him well.”
