Glenn Hoddle identifies one difference between Spurs under Jose Mourinho and Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham hero Glenn Hoddle has identified a big change that he has noticed from Jose Mourinho's first two matches in charge of the North London side.

After guiding Spurs to a 3-2 win against West Ham at the weekend, Mourinho oversaw another high-scoring affair in his first home match in charge as his side fought back from two-goals down to win 4-2 against Olympiacos in the Champions League.

A brace from Harry Kane, alongside efforts from Dele Alli and Serge Aurier, fired the Lilywhites into the knockout stages of the Champions League with one match to spare.

While Kane's record-breaking efforts and Alli's return to the goals was a talking point, Hoddle chose to talk about something else he had noticed after the game.

“We analysed him before the game, how forward he was against West Ham. It’s quite a lopsided back three, with Rose or Davies on the left hand side, but Aurier is allowed to really get himself high up the pitch," he told BT Sport.

“I’ve seen a big change. Not just individually but the way they are playing, they are holding the left-side back, whoever it is either Davies or Rose, he’s playing like a left-sided centre-back and Aurier is going forward.

“They are going direct, they are going to play in the opponent’s half. Maybe when it’s all settled down and he gets to know all the players better, he might see a bit more expansive.”

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand also shared praise for Aurier, identifying him as the one player who has benefited immediately from Mourinho's arrival.

“When a new manager comes in, there is sometimes one player who benefits the most and at the moment it seems like it’s him. He seems like he has been reignited.

“He was someone who we were talking about as a car crash, a walking red card, but now he looks a lot more composed and knows what he is doing.”
