Dele Alli failed to take the opportunity presented to him during Tottenham Hotspur's 1-0 reverse to Royal Antwerp in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
That is according to former Spurs midfielder and manager Glenn Hoddle.
After being left out of the squad that defeated Burnley 1-0 in the Premier League on Monday evening, Alli was one of nine changes made to the Spurs starting line-up for the trip to Belgium.
However, the former MK Dons star failed to grasp the opportunity with both hands, as he delivered a poor showing, which resulted in him being taken off at half time and replaced by Son Heung-min.
For Hoddle, Alli's performances are becoming an area of concern and he insists he failed to repay the faith shown in him by Jose Mourinho to reinstate him to the team.
Hoddle told BT Sport: “I think it is (becoming an issue). This was his opportunity, and Jose would’ve put him in there tonight, thinking, ‘Okay, have a great game, score a goal maybe.'
"But it just didn’t happen for him. At the moment, in his all-round game, he’s giving the ball away too many times.
"The options are there, he’s trying his best but it’s not happening for him.”
Alongside Hoddle in the BT Sport studio was former Manchester United and Bayern Munich midfielder Owen Hargreaves, who feels that the England international is starting to show signs of frustration at his own individual performances.
“He’s lacking in confidence," said Hargreaves. "You can see his frustration, he knows he’s being watched by Mourinho and everyone.
"When your confidence is really low, you end up playing really safe. What I noticed today was when he was getting the ball into him, he was just stopping it dead, rather than trying to get the ball out of his feet and keep moving.”
