Glenn Hoddle delivers damning Tottenham transfer verdict amid Harry Kane to Man City rumours

Former Tottenham player and manager Glenn Hoddle believes the club will will not be able to recruit a "top striker" to replace Harry Kane, if the talisman was to leave the club this summer for Manchester City.

Kane, 27, has made it clear that he is seeking a new challenge for next season, with Premier League champions and Champions League finalists Manchester City at the front of the queue to sign the England international this summer.

Despite Kane's wish to leave the club this summer, chairman Daniel Levy is standing firm so far in granting the 27-year-old his wish.

football.london understands that an offer in excess of £150million would have to be officially tabled by Pep Guardiola's side, if they even want to stand a chance of signing the England striker - a valuation which could rise even further with Kane's current form at Euro 2020.

The Tottenham striker has scored four goals so far in the tournament, and is one off the top scorers Patrik Schick (Czech Republic) and Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal).

Sunday's final against Italy will be Kane's biggest game of his career so far, meaning talk of his future has been shelved up to this point due to his involvement with the Three Lions.

But once the Euros have come to a conclusion, all talk will once again switch back to his immediate future. Levy's stance of trying to fend off clubs from trying to sign his most-prized asset will please former Spurs player Hoddle.

The 63-year-old played over 100 game for Spurs, and Speaking at a Betfair event, the former England manager stated that if the club are to sell Kane the money will need to be reinvested around the squad - not just up front.

"I think looking at Tottenham, spread the money around, I think you've got to look and think that they need defenders in, they need a midfield player and they would need to replace Harry.

"So whoever was going to take over at Tottenham, it is a very, very difficult task at this moment in time. It's a little bit of a crossroads really going forward.

"But no, I think you couldn't put your eggs in one basket, every department of the pitch needs to be looked at.

"There are quite a lot of positions there that need to be really analysed and he [Nuno Espirito Santo] is going to have to be given some time to actually assess that himself and then replace it."

When asked about potential replacements if Kane was to eventually depart in this transfer window, Hoddle delivered a worrying verdict.

"That you can go and get it's difficult isn't it?," Hoddle asked. "The top top strikers I don't see them coming to Tottenham at the moment.

"We are losing a top top striker and we're not going to replace him in that echelons in that top 10 if you like. From these Euros would you go and get Schick?

"He has had a good tournament but I've seen him over a longer period of time.

"I'm not sure whether he will score the amount of goals that Tottenham might need.

"There are some players out there but I think Nuno will look and see where he needs to replace and if Harry goes he's got to get a striker.

"But there's no one outstanding out there that I see that Tottenham is going to make themselves available to them.

"Where they are going to be attractive for them to come at this moment in time, so it will be someone like him."

Away from the European Champions, Schick notched a total of 15 goal contributions in all competitions last season for Bayer Leverkusen.

Coupled with his impressive Euro 2020 campaign, Transfermarkt have valued the ex-Roma forward at £20.7m which would be viewed as affordable for the north London club.

His current contract with Leverkusen runs till 2025, meaning he has four years left on his current deal in the Bundesliga.
