Glenn Hoddle and Rio Ferdinand have a transfer message for Pochettino & Spurs over Ajax star

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Glenn Hoddle and Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand have explained why Mauricio Pochettino should be interested in signing Ajax star Donny van de Beek.

The midfielder was a key player for Ajax in their Champions League semi-final first-leg win over Spurs last week and scored the only goal of the game in London, before Tottenham came from behind to win 3-2 in Amsterdam to seal a place in the final against Liverpool.

BT Sport presenter Gary Lineker opened a discussion on the interest that Spurs reportedly have in the 22-year-old, before both Hoddle and Ferdinand spoke glowingly about his talents.

Jose Mourinho's message to Mauricio Pochettino over latest shock Spurs quit claims

Lineker explained on BT Sport: "There is talk of Donny van der Beek to Spurs...

Hoddle chimed in: "And rightly so. He is a player who plays with his head up. He takes magnificent touches under pressure and this kind has got a big future."

Lineker added: "There is a real calmness to his game, certainly in the penalty box."

Ferdinand jumped in: "One of his best traits when I watch him is his ability to drift into positions. It's very difficult for a centre-half to mark him. He goes in that little corridor of doubt in between the midfield and the centre-halves where he frees himself up to make those passes or get shots off."

Spurs fans go wild for what Gary Neville said ahead of Champions League final against Liverpool

Hoddle added: "It just needs a better number doesn't he? It doesn't suit him. Playing in that sort of role you need a better number than six."
