Glenkens ready to see in 2021 with virtual Hogmanay celebration

First footing and parties may be off the agenda, but people in the Glenkens will be seeing the New Year in style tonight.

New Galloway Community Enterprises and The CatStrand have been working with local communities to put together the Glenkens Hogmanay Celebration.

The CatStrand’s Brian Edgar will be hosting a live programme of great entertainment featuring the amazing Shore Road Ceilidh band, local entertainers and recorded greetings.

The party can be watched on CatStrand TV on YouTube and the New Galloway Community Engagement Events and Activities Facebook page.

In recent weeks, New Year greetings and party pieces have been collected from people who live in or have connections with the Glenkens to form part of the programme.

New Galloway Community Enterprise’s engagement worker, Sam Rushton, said: ”2020 has been an extremely difficult year for us and this event will provide use a wonderful opportunity to have some fun and feel connected.

“The contributions have been both heart-warming and creative.”

The programme starts at 10.30pm when people can watch or digitally interact with the event. It will finish at 12.15am with a piper and the Glenkens Choir treating everyone to Auld Lang Syne.

The Glenkens Hogmanay Celebration has been made possible thanks to funding from Glenkens District Trust using the Blackcraig Community Windfarm Community fund and also Stewartry area committee’s discretionary grants scheme.
