Glengoyne gets the green light to reopen distillery just outside Glasgow to visitors

A whisky distillery close to Glasgow is set to reopen its doors to visitors.

Glengoyne Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky will be welcoming visitors from Saturday, August 1, after temporarily closing during lockdown.

Glengoyne has been awarded a 'We're Good to Go' stamp of approval by VisitScotland to confirm that they're adhering to the government and public health guidance.

Also returning will be the whisky experiences which can be attended by a maximum of 20 people from ten households.

Private “Malt Master” experiences will also be available to book for up to four people from a maximum two households.

Each hour-long session will see visitors enjoy an in-depth insight into Glengoyne’s history and award-winning range of single malt whiskies.

Tickets must be booked in advance with up to five tours available each day.

Visitors will be asked to wear masks on arrival and while moving around, and there will be dedicated hygiene stations around the site.

While access to the stills is prohibited, Glengoyne’s Tasting Room will be open, where guests will be able to enjoy a tutored tasting of Glengoyne whiskies.

Preparation of drinks and tasting vessels will be carried out by staff in PPE and all drinks will be served in sealed containers.

Staff will be wearing Perspex visors, instead of masks, allowing them to fully engage with guests.

Glengoyne’s on-site shop will also reopen, with guests being asked to register on arrival for contact tracing before being able to browse and purchase the brand’s range of whiskies and other gifts.

Robbie Hughes, Group Distillation Manager at Ian Macleod Distillers, said: “We’re excited to be opening Glengoyne’s doors once again, and to be welcoming visitors back to our distillery.

“Much like our approach to making our whisky, a lot of time and care has gone into providing the safest possible experience for our guests, while ensuring they can comfortably enjoy the Glengoyne distillery in all its glory.

“We’ll continue to work closely with the Scottish Government and public health bodies to review our measures and will communicate any further changes to our experiences as soon as we have them.

“We look forward to seeing you all from August 1st . Sláinte.”
