A planning application has been approved by Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council for a three-storey apartment block in Glengormley.
The new homes at Ballyclare Road will be comprised of 12 two-bedroom and five accessible one-bedroom apartments on a vacant corner site at the junction of Moss Road.
Parking for 19 vehicles and green space provision are included in the plan.
Fourteen letters of objection have been received by the local authority over the proposal.
Objections include road safety concerns, increase in traffic, parking provision, road widening at Carwood Way and potential decrease in property value.
A petition with 34 signatures was also received by planning officials.
An officer’s report presented to the borough council’s Planning Committee, on Monday evening, said: “The proposed apartments would appear to respect the existing pattern of development and would not create any significant negative impacts on the character of the surrounding area.”
It was also stated: “An amended scheme submitted to the Council removed the access road from Carwood Park and Carwood Way and now the proposed access is to be taken directly from the Moss Road.”
Planning officer Barry Diamond confirmed that access would be directly from Moss Road.
Glengormley DUP Councillor Phillip Brett proposed that planning permission be approved.
The proposal was seconded by Antrim DUP councillor, Alderman John Smyth.
