Gleneagles Townhouse Edinburgh: First look inside as luxury hotel opens

After months of waiting and plenty of anticipation, Edinburgh's latest luxury hotel, the Gleneagles Townhouse, is open to guests for the very first time.

Despite only opening today, the venue was recently hailed as one of GQ's top places to visit for 2022, while Conde Nast named it one of the most exciting new hotels in the world.

The Gleneagles Townhouse team this morning announced: "And the doors, or should we say the vaults ... open ... welcome to the Gleneagles Townhouse."

The Townhouse, Gleneagles' first ever expansion outside of its Perthshire home in its 96-year history, also boasts a roof terrace bar, 'Lamplighters,' with views across the capital's iconic skyline, as well as an opulent all-day restaurant, The Spence, which will be headed by award-winning chef, Johnny Wright.

And one of the highlights of the new hotel is set to be its private members club, which comes with exclusive 'wellness experiences'.

Marking a new chapter in the listed building’s history, the Townhouse was originally home to the British Linen Company before later becoming the Bank of Scotland. Over the last five years, Ennismore Design Studio has painstakingly restored the building, creating 33 unique rooms and suites, some of which overlook the bustling St Andrew Square.

At the heart of this notable building lies The Spence – an airy, social space which will offer modern style brasserie-dining, from Bloody Mary breakfasts all the way through to dynamic dinners.

Within The Spence, a central bar sits underneath an extraordinary glass-domed ceiling serving up a seasonally rotating, locally inspired list of cocktails, local whiskies, beers, spirits, and wine curated by bar manager, Stefanie Anderson.

Down in the bank’s former vault, Townhouse resident guests and members will have access to a dedicated training, treatments and therapies space – The Strong Rooms – which will open later in June.

With curated experiences for holistic wellness and innovative technologies including a cryotherapy chamber and infrared sauna, alongside the gym and wellness studios, which aim to enhance individual wellness journeys through movement, restoration, and recovery.

The roof terrace bar Lamplighters, open exclusively to members, offers impressive views of the city’s medieval Old Town to the left and New Town to the right – the perfect spot to watch the sun set and see the city lights sparkle.

The hotel is located at 37-39 St Andrew's Square and is now open.
