Glendale Councilman Najarian joins race for L.A. County supervisor

March 19--A Glendale city councilman has joined the race to succeed Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, according to a statement he filed with county election officials.

Ara Najarian, an attorney, said in his filing he would accept voluntary spending limits and intended to spend no more than $50,000 on his June 2016 primary campaign.

Najarian joins several other Republicans seeking to succeed Antonovich, who must leave office next year due to term limits.

They are county prosecutor Elan S. Carr, Republican state Senate Minority Leader Robert Huff of Diamond Bar and Kathryn Barger, who is Antonovich's chief deputy and has his endorsement. All three have filed the paperwork required to begin raising campaign money.

Huff and Carr must move into Antonovich's 5th District, which extends from parts of the San Gabriel and San Fernando valleys and covers the Santa Clarita and Antelope valleys.

Three other candidates have filed papers to run for the 4th District seat of Supervisor Don Knabe, who also will be termed out next year. They are Rep. Janice Hahn (D-San Pedro); Steve Napolitano, a Knabe aide and former Manhattan Beach mayor; and former Redondo Beach mayor Mike Gin.

Gin and Napolitano are Republicans. County board seats are officially nonpartisan.
