Glenda Gilson announces shock departure from Virgin Media after 14 years - 'End of an era'

Glenda Gilson has announced she is leaving Virgin Media after nearly 14 years at the station.

The entertainment presenter was due back from maternity leave at the end of this month, after welcoming her second son last year.

But taking to Instagram on Wednesday morning, she confirmed that she will not be coming back saying ‘it’s time for new adventures’.

The 40-year-old wrote: “After nearly 14 years at Virgin Media, I’ve decided that I will not be returning at the end of the month.

“I have so many memories that will stay with me forever – some that will make me laugh, some will haunt me forever, and some will definitely fill my heart with such happiness, especially when I think of the great people I met and worked with along the way.”

“I’m certainly not turning my back on television or presenting.

“It’s just time for new adventures right now,” she added.

Fans and friends rushed to wish the ex Xpose star well, with her former colleague Cassie Stokes saying: “One of my favourite colleagues who became a good friend!

“End of an era! Can’t wait to see what’s next for you! I’d say you will be hugely missed xxx”

Holly Carpenter echoed: "End of an era! Exciting things ahead I’m sure."

Pippa O'Connor commented: "Goodluck G, onwards and upwards."

Suzanne Jackson added: “So beautiful. It was so lovely working with you over the years! A real pro…. Amazing at what you do. Here’s to new beginnings.”

Her departure comes after a wave of change within the station, that has seen a number of well known presenters leave in recent weeks.

Laura Woods, Anna Daly and Aidan Power have also left the station, while Elaine Crowley and Muireann O'Connell moved over the Ireland AM team with Karen Koster swapping to host The Six O'Clock Show with Martin King.

Glenda first joined the station, formerly known as TV3 before rebranding as Virgin Media Television, in 2007 as a presenter on Xpose.

When the show was axed in 2019, Glenda joined the Ireland AM team as an entertainment reporter.
