Glencairn wary of future lockdown threat

Rutherglen Glencairn have been forced to halt training due to a directive from the Joint Response Group, but committee man Peter Ferguson doesn’t think that will have a major impact.

Although Ferguson says the situation in Scottish football is ‘fluid’, he says there is plenty of time before the indicated October 10 start date.

Covid-19 breaches by the ‘Aberdeen 8’ and Celtic’s Boli Bolingoli prompted the JRG to ban all lower league training until August 24, but Ferguson says it’s not a problem... yet.

He said: “We had to pause the training that we had started a couple of weeks ago, and we’ve now had to put it on hold, but I don’t think it’s going to be a major issue.

“If we get started again next week, there’s still going to be seven weeks until October 10, which is the date we’ve been given as an indication.

“In a normal pre-season there’s usually six or seven weeks anyway, so I don’t see it being a major issue, as long as the clubs when they come back are all adhering to the protocols.

“You really don’t know if there will be a delay. It’s a very fluid situation and there could be spikes at any time.

"The season might get started and then stopped, nobody can really say anything for sure at the moment.”
