Glencairn boss claims his side haven't had results they deserve this season

Rutherglen Glencairn haven’t had results that their performances have merited, says boss Willie Harvey.

Glens are 12th in the West Of Scotland League Premier Division going into 2021, having lost 3-1 at Rossvale last night (Tuesday).

Dale Simeon gave Glens the lead after three minutes, but a Lee Roulston double had Vale 2-1 up before the visitors were down to 10 men when Jackson Biggar picked up a second booking, and Jonny Kavanagh added a stoppage-time third for the hosts.

Harvey says his side haven't had their just rewards this season, but won’t fault his players.

“The season has been disappointing results-wise, but if I’m being honest the only really bad performance has been against Clydebank, and that was only for 45 minutes,” he said.

“We’ve played all the teams at the top of the league – Troon, Hurlford, Clydebank – and the only team that really destroyed us was Clydebank, and that was only in the second half.

“I feel that we should have picked up more points and it’s disappointing, but I can’t fault the boys.

“It’s a crazy, crazy season, but we’ll keep working away and hopefully we’ll start getting some points on the board.”

Harvey said their home game against Darvel at the weekend had ‘no chance’ after heavy rain, but hopes they can be more clinical in their upcoming games.

He added: “We’re not taking chances when they’re coming along and basically being caught out at the other end, but that’s what happens in this division.

“It’s such a cut-throat division – if you don’t take your chances and put teams to the sword, all it takes is one mistake at the back and all of a sudden they’ve put you to the sword, and that has happened to us.

“We should be sitting a lot higher up the league than what we’re showing just now, but I’m not going to fault the guys, because their effort has been absolutely tremendous.

“We’ve definitely acquitted ourselves well. I know you’ll look at the results and think ‘beat again’, but if you look at it, the only team that’s scored any amount of goals against us is Clydebank.

“If I looked at the games and thought we didn’t deserve anything out of them I’d have a lot of concern, but we have been so competitive in the games.

“There are an awful lot of positives, and it doesn’t seem that way when you see the results, but I still believe that the team we’ve got is a good team.

“I believe they can turn it round and it is just a case of breaking their duck, taking their chances and a couple of wins will all of a sudden give us confidence again. We’ll keep working away, change it round a wee bit and hopefully start climbing up the league.”
