Glenavon defender Colin Coates placed on transfer list

Colin Coates has been transfer-listed by Glenavon.

The Lurgan Blues said they had made Coates available to other clubs "due to the restructuring of the playing staff post COVID-19".

Gary Hamilton has already added defensive options to his squad with the signings of Mark Haughey, Mark Stafford and Danny Wallace.

In a brief statement posted online on Monday night the Mourneview Park club said: “Colin Coates has been placed on the transfer list due to the restructuring of the playing staff post COVID-19.”

Coates had signed an 18-month contract with Glenavon in January 2020 with the option for a further year.

The veteran has been at the Lurgan Blues for a year and a half following his shock exit from Seaview last season.

Coates found himself out of Gary Hamilton’s side in January last season, but vowed he had the ability to get back in to favour.

The three-time Irish League winner made 16 appearances for the Mourneview side since his arrival in January 2020.

Coates has made six appearances for Northern Ireland with his fist cap coming against Italy in 2009.
