Glenavon 2 Crusaders 2: Gary Hamilton praises players despite injury time blow

Gary Hamilton believes his players showed glimpses of the Glenavon of old despite dropping two late points against Crusaders on Saturday.

Paul McElroy rescued a draw for the Crues with a close-range finish in the 91st minute as the late kick-off ended 2-2 at Mourneview Park.

It has been a testing season for Glenavon who have struggled to find momentum and currently lie 10th in the Premiership table.

Hamilton - who started for the Lurgan Blues in Saturday's late kick-off - insisted he would glean plenty of positives from Saturday's draw.

"There are some mixed emotions because I'm delighted with the way the boys performed today," he told the BBC.

"I thought they were outstanding, each and every one of them. Back to the Glenavon we know with the way we play - energy levels, pressing and closing down the ball, creating chances and defending better.

"But I'm obviously gutted for them that we conceded the equaliser so late. I didn't think we deserved that, but that's been the story of our season. "

Crusaders led at the break thanks to Jamie McGonigle's 43rd-minute opener.

But Glenavon fought back with Jordan Jenkins' equaliser in the 61st minute and then Stephen Murray's goal put them ahead with just five minutes remaining.

But Stephen Baxter's visitors showed their resilience with a dramatic late equaliser.

"We don't seem to be getting those bits and pieces of luck, but I'm still delighted with the performance and the attitude.," Hamilton added.

"That's the kind of team and performance I want to associate myself with."
