Glenafton Athletic say they'd prefer to stay in Junior football set-up as West of Scotland League plan takes giant step forward

West Premiership big guns Glenafton Athletic insist they want to stay in the existing Junior football set-up amid moves to introduce a West of Scotland League next season.

The New Cumnock club broke their silence on the SFA pyramid system row that casts a serious doubt over the future of the grade in an official statement on social media.

It reads: "A couple of years ago the SJFA fully backed the concept of junior clubs enrolling into the SFA pyramid system but negotiations have broken down between both parties involved.

"Our club would prefer to remain within the existing SJFA West league structure, we can confirm that we will support the SJFA to find a suitable solution to resolve this matter

"In the meantime we have addressed our “ expression of interest “ for the proposed Scottish Lowland West of Scotland League at Tier 6 in the pyramid.

"We will keep all our members and fans updated."
