Please join me in casting your mind back to February 2023. The weather was gloriously warm, and all felt right knowing that Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell were filming Anyone But You on Aussie soil. While filming was still happening, the gossip world was running amok over the theories that the two leads were a bit more than friends, despite having partners at the time.
The rumour mill went into overdrive when Glen’s long-term girlfriend Gigi Paris seemed to hint on Instagram that their relationship had come to an end.
Now, two years after filming, Gigi has shared some intel about what led to their highly publicised break-up.

Speaking on the Too Much Podcast, Gigi broke her silence about her break-up with Glen after watching it unravel publicly in the media two years prior. Although she doesn’t refer to him by name, it’s alarmingly clear who she’s referring to.
Gigi had been dating Glen for four years, and during that time, he began to skyrocket to fame in Hollywood. For a while, it was exciting, but soon Gigi felt that their paths “weren’t aligning anymore”.
“I realised that I’m either going to hop on this crazy train or I back the fuck off because if I am in the way in any way, I’m just going to be pushed right off,” she said.
Despite these feelings, the 32-year-old model says the moment their relationship started to decline was when people started tagging her in a post he’d put on Instagram, which referenced Sydney. While Gigi didn’t think anything was going on, she did send him a message to warn him that his words could be misconstrued.
“I just screenshotted it to him and said ‘hey, the world is watching, watch what you’re saying’. Like, please proceed with caution. And that wasn’t received very well.”
“What’s funny about all of that is that you don’t want to seem like the crazy person. You don’t want to seem insecure. You don’t want to seem jealous. And those words, I promise, only stem from when there’s a reason,” Gigi continued.
“I can be the most confident person in the room, but as soon as the person closest to me makes me feel like I have to prove myself in some sort of way, of course, I’m going to start questioning.”

From there, the rumours only got more intense. For Gigi — who was trying to lock down a working visa so she could come to Australia — this was pretty hard to watch.
“I hit a threshold of what I could take, and that was that,” Gigi explained.
“I had two options. I could either pretend like I was going along with everything and have everyone wonder, like, ‘Are they hooking up? Are they not hooking up? Is she okay with this? What the fuck?’ Or stand up for myself and say, ‘No, I’m actually not okay with this, and I’m walking away.’ So that’s what I decided to do … I was shattered.”
So, instead of breaking up with Glen over the phone, Gigi flew to Australia.
“I flew across the world to look at him in the face and say, ‘I can’t do this anymore’ — which was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do,” she said.

For Gigi, the most frustrating part of the break-up was that Glen never reassured her that nothing was going on.
“Where are you when you just need to stand up and say, ‘No, I would never cheat on my girlfriend. I wouldn’t do that. That’s all that needed to be said. And that wasn’t said. Never once,” she said, noting that she doesn’t really know what went down.
“I have heard so many different sides of the story. I have no confirmation of what actually happened. I just know what my standards are. And for me, it just wasn’t okay the way it was handled, period.”
Despite the obvious chemistry between Sydney and Glen, they have consistently denied that anything romantic happened between them. Instead, the co-stars said they decided to play into the rumours.
“That’s people wanting what’s on the screen, off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit — and it worked wonderfully,” Glen told the New York Times.
While the media spectacle was painful for Gigi, she admits that she was almost hoping that Sydney and Glen would get together.
“I honestly hoped that they’d end up together, because I was like, at least it would make it worth it for me, you know? I hope they are in love or whatnot,” she said.
So far, despite continuing whispers, Glen and Sydney are not a couple. At least publicly, anyway.
