Glen Powell’s bad tattoos on ‘Chad Powers’ are so bad they’re perfect

I love watching something and see an actor who does not, typically, have tattoos having them as a character. What was the process like to get those? Who decided what tattoos go where? For Chad Powers, they’re used in such a specific way with Russ Holliday and I love it.

Glen Powell himself, as far as the public knows, does not have tattoos. Whether that’s an aesthetic choice or what is his business but I do think it is funny to then see just how many tattoos they gave Russ on the show. And more than that, how horrible all of Russ’ tattoos are.

In the context of Chad Powers, we know that Russ Holliday as a man “sucks.” To be fair, he’s just cocky and it ends up knocking him out of the good grace of everyone. So it weighs on him. Frankly, Russ is pretty relatable in that way becase he lets everyone telling him negative things about him color his own view of himself. Who among us hasn’t?

But what I do think is funny is that the tattoos that Russ has are such “douchy dude” tattoos that they really are using them as a way of telling us exactly who Russ is. What else explains Russ having two spades on his chest? It is hilarious to see them as a plot point as well, especially when he’s pretending to be Chad. He knows that people will recognize the tattoo on his forearm and has to cover it up.

Now, sure, you might think “it’s a forearm tattoo, it is fine” but that’s not really the case. Tattoos are unique and special and one as bad as that weird tornado thing is something that people would look at and make fun of so it is “unique.”

Tattoos are an artform and not just in the design of them. Where you put your tattoos is important and can make or break you as a canvas. I have a specific style I use on my arms, another on my thighs which are hidden, and so on and so forth. Figuring out where you want your tattoos says a lot about you. For Russ, his scream “douche.”

Chest tattoos are not really my cup of tea but smaller ones can be sweet. Russ’ on the other hand are large and ostentatious because that’s how he is. I would not put it past him to think that the spades draw attention to his chest and he wants that to be the case.

Which is why I think whoever designed the tattoos and decided where they would be placed is actually a genius. Or at least someone who knows what tattoos mean/how they can define us. Now, if someone on the Chad Powers team wants to give us an in-depth breakdown of each of Russ’ tattoos, I would not be mad about it. I am here to talk to you about each and every one of these bad tats.
