Money makes people do crazy things and in the trailer for the new A24 film, How to Make a Killing, we see just how far one man is willing to go. Rich, preppy white boys and murder? I’m sold.
Glen Powell stars as Becket Redfellow, the bastard child of one of the heirs to the Redfellow fortune. The problem is that in order to get any of the wealth of the family, he has to wait until the seven other heirs all die. To speed things along, Becket decides to take matters into his own hands. The trailer for the new A24 film is basically American Psycho meets Riot Club meets A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder. And I loved every single second of it.
Written and directed by John Patton Ford, the film also stars Margaret Qualley, Jessica Henwick, Bill Camp, Zach Woods, Topher Grace, and Ed Harris. How to Make a Killing is described as follows: “Disowned at birth by his obscenely wealthy family, blue-collar Becket Redfellow (Glen Powell) will stop at nothing to reclaim his inheritance, no matter how many relatives stand in his way.”
Do we all need Topher Grace with a sword in our lives? Yes. And the trailer for How to Make a Killing gives that to us.
This is for the American Psycho girlies
There is no greater joy to me than a good take on a thriller. While How to Make a Killing might not be a satire in the way American Psycho is, the preppy energy of this trailer was enough to get my Patrick Bateman senses tingling. What makes Patton Ford’s film seem so special is the motivation of Becket.
We know that Patrick Bateman is a bad man. He’s killing the innocent to feed his own need to feel superior. But you can’t help but watch him as he does it. Which is where I am drawing the comparison between these two characters (based on the trailer). Becket is killing these people because they didn’t acknowledge him as a Redfellow and it is wrong and yet I cannot wait to watch it all unfold.
How to Make a Killing is set to release in theaters on February 20, 2026.
