Glen Kamara's burning Rangers ambition as Neil McCann reveals star's mindset amid transfer talk

Neil McCann insists there's no chance Glen Kamara will push for a Rangers exit amid speculation over Premier League interest.

Arsenal , Aston Villa and Sheffield United are all rumoured to have watched the Ibrox midfielder, as well as Championship leaders Leeds United.

Kamara signed for Rangers in a cut-price £50,000 deal from Dundee in January 2018 and has since become an integral member of Steven Gerrard's squad.

It was McCann who brought the Finland international to Scotland the previous summer in his role as Dundee boss.

And he believes the 24-year-old harbours a burning ambition to deliver success to Rangers before considering a move elsewhere.

He told The Scottish Sun: “Who knows what will happen — maybe Rangers will receive an offer they can’t reject.

“All I know is that Glen won’t be making waves. He loves it at Rangers and when I talk to him he’s desperate to be successful there.

“When he first signed he phoned me and said he’d taken the No 18 jersey because it was my number when I first went there.

"He also gave me one of his first Finland strips as a thank you for helping him out at the start, so that shows what type of boy he is.

“We have since had  conversations about what it would be like for him to be successful at Rangers.

“I have experienced that myself and when you’re part of winning something there it is incredible.

“That’s what is driving  Glen now — a desire to lift silverware with Rangers. He won’t be pushing to leave in January. I can say that 100 per cent.

"I believe he feels an affinity to the club already. I’ve been there myself.

“I won the Scottish Cup with Hearts in 1998 and could have moved to Rangers that summer.  I didn’t as I loved the feeling I had at Hearts at that time and I said no.

“As it turned out, the transfer then happened in the December of that year.

“But I just think Glen will be in the frame of mind that he’s got things to achieve with Rangers, so moving now wouldn’t be right.

"If the club get a big offer for him, however, then they might look at things differently.”
