Glen Kamara Rangers unity showed champions are band of brothers says Ianis Hagi

Ianis Hagi insists the hard graft on the training ground helped create a close-knit Rangers squad which shone through in their backing of Glen Kamara in his racism hell.

The Romanian international admitted the team spirit helped drive the Light Blues to an historic 55th league title and the club’s first in a decade.

Hagi said the sweat and toil on the training ground from day one of pre-season brought them closer together than ever as a group and it was then evident in their backing of Kamara.

Steven Gerrard and his band of blues brothers rallied around Kamara after he was subjected to a sickening slur by Ondrej Kudela during their Europa League loss to Slavia Prague at Ibrox.

And after getting his hands on the Scottish Premiership trophy following Saturday’s 4-0 win over Aberdeen, Hagi said: “The work we’ve put in, it brought us together.

“We pushed ourselves without even knowing. You see even in the Europa League - the thing that happened with Glen - you see how big a group we are and how close we are.

“From the first day in pre-season until now there’s been so much work on the training ground and getting ready for these type of moments.”

Hagi arrived on loan at Ibrox from Genk midway through the previous season only for it to be cut short due to Covid.

The 22-year-old had shown in flashes what he could offer with his stunning two-goal show in the first leg 3-2 comeback win over Braga at Ibrox the highlight.

That kind of performance was enough to convince Gerrard to make his move permanent and Hagi arrived from the Belgian side for around £4.5 million in the summer.

And he played an important part in the title win with nine goals, including a vital winner at home to Hibs on Boxing Day, and is now desperate for more after the unbeaten league campaign.

Hagi told Rangers TV: “We’re happy to get it over the line and now hopefully it’s just the beginning. Having a taste of how it feels, its’ so good, and we’re hungry for more.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling, winning the title so early and now getting our hands on the trophy and being invincibles.

“It’s hard to put into words - we’re just proud. We’re happy that we made such a great achievement at such a huge club and making so many fans happy, family and friends as well.

“We’ve got everything. As football players, we can’t ask for anything else. We just have to go out and deliver every single day.

“That’s the right road we have go to and follow it and pick up trophies on the way up.”
