Glen Hoddle delivers verdict on Chelsea's chances of winning the Champions League

Former Chelsea midfielder Glenn Hoddle believes his former club have the chance to win the Champions League.

The Blues wrapped up top spot in their group on Wednesday with a 4-0 away win over Sevilla despite Frank Lampard making nine changes for the clash.

Olivier Giroud scored all four goals, netting a hat-trick before rounding off his perfect evening with a goal from the penalty spot.

The win means the Blues continue their fine start to the season, making it 12 games unbeaten in all competitions and former midfielder Hoddle believes Lampard's men may be contenders to win the Champions League.

"You can’t look past Bayern Munich because they are so powerful but you have got to put Chelsea up there," he told BT Sport.

"For me at this moment, they are above Barcelona and above Real Madrid.

"They are two massive clubs but Chelsea’s team is better than theirs.

"In this moment in time I think they [Chelsea] have got to be looking at at least the semi-final and you get to a semi-final, anything can happen.

"And they have international players who are going to get better as the season goes and if the crowds are full and we are back to full houses – we haven’t seen this Chelsea side inspired by a crowd and the bigger the occasion the better the best players are.

"There is more to come from Chelsea."

Chelsea won their group with a game to spare, meaning they should be better placed for the knockout stage draw, set to play against one of the second-placed teams from another group.

Though, it doesn't always work out to be the better scenario with plenty of top sides finishing second in their group, especially this season with the likes of Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Juventus all potentially finishing second in their respective groups.
