Glaswegians pay less than homeowners in Edinburgh for mortgages

A new property study by UK comparison site MoneySuperMarket has revealed that Glaswegians pay less than homeowners in Edinburgh on average for their mortgage.

The study shows that homeowners in Edinburgh pay a monthly amount of £804.29 towards their mortgage, compared to a monthly average of £514.72 paid by Glaswegians.

This has been broken down from the average mortgage borrowed figures noted across cities in the UK in the study, which shows that Glaswegians have an average mortgage borrowed total of £114,804.89, compared to £180,799.78 in Edinburgh.

Both of which that are some way below the UK’s highest average mortgage in London, where there is an average of £221,086.44 borrowed.

The average length of a mortgage is also longer in Edinburgh than in Glasgow at 23.33 years, compared to an average duration of 22.89 years for homeowners here.

Meanwhile Glasgow has an average interest rate of 1.86%, well under the highest average interest rate in the country of 1.89% in Plymouth, with Brighton at 1.71% at the other end of the scale.
